The theft of a flashlight apparently wasn’t enough for a Chatham man last night, as he seemed to have a problem with the bed in his jail cell too.

Chatham-Kent police say officers responded to a report of a suspicious man in a parking lot on St. Clair Street last night, leaned he had stolen a flashlight and batteries from Home Depot, and arrested him for theft.

But while in custody, the man proceeded to damage the mattress in his cell, police say.

A 27-year-old Chatham man is charged with theft, possession of stolen property and mischief.
