Assaulting a cop

It started with a counterfeit bill and ended six days later with multiple charges.

Chatham-Kent police say on Feb. 13, a man used a counterfeit $20 bill at McDonald’s in Wallaceburg.

Police identified the man and began to look for him.

Two nights later, an officer on patrol spotted him, police say, riding a bike on Dufferin Avenue. The officer went to arrest the man, but he resisted, and a struggle ensued before the man escaped on foot.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the altercation.

Tuesday morning, officers found the man at a residence in Wallaceburg, and made the arrest.

A 24-year-old man is charged with fraud, using counterfeit money, assaulting a peace officer and escaping lawful custody.
