Sir: With all due respect to my good friends Jim and Doreen Stonehouse, who expressed their fear that there were too many people putting their names on the ballot for the new council, we can’t ask people to refrain from offering themselves for election.
Surely an honest desire to serve your fellow citizens is an admirable thing.
It appears Jim and Doreen don’t want Randy Hope to be our next mayor. But if we have a bunch of new councillors sitting around the table, perhaps we need an experienced man to guide them.
Some people make good mayors. Look at Hurricane Hazel McCallion who was mayor of Mississauga for 36 years. And now at 97 she’s a special advisor at the University of Toronto, Mississauga campus.
