Yet another crossover accident this morning on Highway 401 near Tilbury claimed a life and has closed the highway in both directions.

Chatham-Kent OPP say the crash occurred in the eastbound lanes between County Rd. 42 and Queen’s Line when a tractor-trailer crossed through the centre median and slammed into a second big rig.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries, but one was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver’s identity is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

Police estimate the road will be closed into the afternoon.

The detour is taking traffic along County Rd. 42/Queen’s Line, right through Tilbury.

  1. The highway was not built for the heavy traffic of today. BUT the lack of training for these drivers is pathetic They lack of experience. Lack of knowledge. That is part of the trouble today. Barriers are one thing. But educated safe drivers is the top priority. We have drivers in our families. We don’t want them yo be part of someone else’s lsvk if rrsponfinlity. The trucking companies need to step up and enforce strong training
