Organizers of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo 2018 were in Ridgetown to announce Canada’s largest independent seed company is sponsoring the Agriculture Tent at the Match.

Maizex Seeds, the fourth largest seed company in Canada, has been in business for 33 years and with 40 full-time employees and seasonal staff is a big part of the Chatham-Kent economy.

The Maizex contribution of $11,800 is playing a significant role in bringing the IPM to Chatham-Kent.

“It is a very welcome part of the event and it is good to see local companies showing support,” said IPM co-chair Leon Leclair in a media release.

“Maizex founder Dave Baute has made significant impacts on the community both through the company and in his work as Chair of the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus Agrifood Foundation,” added co-chair Darrin Cannif.

Canniff noted Baute is a graduate of the Ridgetown Campus.

“As an independent Canadian agri-business working with farmers across the country we understand the importance of agriculture to the social and economic fabric of our country.” said Baute. “We are proud as a national seed business founded and based in Chatham-Kent to sponsor the International Plowing Match here this year. This event will not only bring profile to our community, but importantly provide the opportunity to educate people who are not involved in agriculture about the fundamental role our industry plays in everyone’s day to day life and what an amazing job our local farmers are doing to help feed the planet.”

The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo is one of the largest annual outdoor agricultural and rural living events in North America. IPM 2018 is being organized by a committee of local volunteers in co-operation with the Ontario Plowmen’s Association.

IPM 2018 will see thousands of visitors to plowing competitions, displays of life in Chatham-Kent, educational exhibits and a 100-acre Tented City.

Exhibitors. Vendors, and Volunteers are actively being recruited and more information can be found at www.plowingmatch.org/ipm2018
