Poetry lovers have a chance to immerse themselves in prose this month at an outdoor poetry reading in Chatham.

A Downtown Chatham Outdoor Big Poetry Reading is being held May 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. outside of the Downtown Chatham Centre at the corner of King & Fifth streets. It’s free and it will happen rain or shine.

People are invited to come for 10 minutes, for half an hour, for as long or as little as they like. There will be funny poems, serious poems, story poems, and nonsense poems. There will be poems by famous authors and by unknown authors. All are poems that were written to be enjoyed when read aloud.

Attendees are invited to bring a chair as there is limited seating. The reader is Clair Culliford of the Veranda Presents.

There will be poems by Coleridge, Kipling, Herrick, Blake, Yeats, Frost, Milton, and more. In honour of RetroFest, Culliford said a car poem will be read.
