Monday was a strange day of activity for the local criminal element.

It started early, as police responded to a report of suspicious activity Monday morning near Stanley Avenue in Chatham.

The caller reported two suspicious men. Officers located one riding a bicycle and carrying tools. The man spotted the officers, jumped off his bike and fled on foot.

Police say he was found hiding in a dumpster on Sparks Street, and was arrested on outstanding warrants.

That same morning, officers tracked down a woman wanted for failing to comply with release conditions.

Police say back in December, a woman was released with conditions, one of which was to comply with a curfew between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

On March 30, officers conducted a compliance check about 9:30 p.m., and police say there was no sign of the woman at her residence.

Yesterday morning, officers arrested a 29-year-old Chatham woman and charged her with failing to comply.

Last night, officers responded to a disturbance between two men known to each other. Police say a 30-year-old man was assaulted and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

A 56-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Despite the fact the Goodwill Industries location on National Road in Chatham has a fenced compound, police say officers learned of two guys inside the area – more specifically inside the donation bin – removing items last night.

When police gained entry, the officers found two men hiding behind a stack of pallets near the bin.

A 39-year-old Chatham man and a 57-year-old Chatham man are both charged with break and enter, as well as possession of property obtained by crime.

Furthermore, sometime between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. last night, someone stole electronics from a Water Street residence in Wallaceburg.

Missing is a television, laptop and gaming system
