A Chatham man faces a host of charges after someone used counterfeit money on Feb. 20 to make two separate purchases.

Chatham-Kent police say a man attended the Park Avenue Petro Canada that day and made two different purchases. The only problem was that he paid with $20 U.S. bills – both of which had the same serial number – JB44CYBEHNP – with the ‘N’ appearing backwards, which is derived from the Russian Cyrillic alphabet.

Police say video surveillance identified the man, and on Monday morning, police located him.

A 36 year-old Chatham man is charged with possessing counterfeit money, two counts of uttering counterfeit money, and failing to comply with his release conditions by going to the Petro Canada.
