The New Year has not been kind to suspected criminals in Chatham-Kent.

On Wednesday morning, a Chatham-Kent police officer made a routine traffic stop, police say, and learned the driver had a warrant for his arrest out of Leamington.

The resulting search of the driver and the vehicle led to the officer finding drugs.

A 27-year-old Chatham man is now charged with two counts of possession, one for morphine and the other for methamphetamine.

Another traffic stop Tuesday afternoon led to more drug charges. Police say an officer pulled a vehicle over on Grand Avenue East about 4 p.m. and learned the plates attached to the vehicle didn’t belong to that car. Furthermore, drugs were spotted in the vehicle.

Police say the man was just released last month from custody, with a condition to not consume or possess drugs.

A 21-year-old Chatham man faces charges for using plates not authorized for a vehicle, failing to notify on becoming a new owner of a vehicle, driving without insurance, failing to comply, possession of stolen property, and two counts of possession of drugs, one for cocaine and the other for marijuana.
