Chatham-Kent police found the accident, but no driver Wednesday night.
Police say officers responded to a call about a single-vehicle accident on River Line between Communication Road and Harwich Road about 8:15 p.m. last night.
The officers found a heavily damaged, but empty, pickup truck that had slammed into a hydro pole. Concerned for the driver’s safety, they called in a police dog, and used an infrared camera to search the area.
They eventually found the driver at his home. He suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
But now a 44-year-old Dover Township man is facing charges of failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, and careless driving.
Damage to the truck is pegged at $25,000.
