Two men were arrested yesterday morning after stealing cable and attempting a getaway on bicycles.
Around 6:00 a.m., an observant citizen saw two men by the Bell Canada poles in the area of St. Patrick Street and Foster Street in Chatham. The men were using a ladder to remove wiring from the pole. Approximately $250 of Bell cable and steel support cable was stolen.
The men fled on bikes, however police located the first man a short distance away. The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Shortly after noon, the second man was located and arrested. The 32-year-old Raleigh Township man has been charged with theft under $5000 and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
