A man is police custody after stealing gas and resisting arrest.

Yesterday morning, police responded to a gas drive off at the Pioneer Gas Bar on Richmond Street in Chatham.  The man pumped $40 worth of gas and drove away in a stolen blue Jeep Liberty from Windsor without making any attempt to pay.

Yesterday afternoon, the stolen vehicle was seen on Prince Albert Road and a traffic stop was initiated.  The man refused to exit the vehicle or show the officers his hands, therefore, the window was broken and he was removed from the Jeep.  The man was arrested and transported to hospital for medical attention of minor injuries where he was treated and released.

The 46-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000.  He has also been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by peace officer, assault peace officer, resist arrest and breach of probation stemming from an incident with police on August 3.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
