The driver of tractor trailer involved in rollover Saturday afternoon on Hwy. 401 has been upgraded from serious to stable condition.

Around 3:00 p.m., the Chatham-Kent OPP were called to the scene of a single tractor trailer collision on Hwy. 401 near Bloomfield Road.

Police learned a tractor trailer entered the centre median, veered across the eastbound lanes and rolled over in the ditch on the south side of the highway.  The transport truck was hauling rubber retread and as it rolled over, all the contents of its load spilled out into the ditch.

The lone female driver of the vehicle sustained serious life-threatening injuries after being partially ejected and pinned under the truck. She was transported to hospital by EMS and then air-lifted to a London hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver has since been upgraded to stable condition. The investigation is continuing and charges are expected to be laid.

The two left lanes in both directions of the highway were blocked for approximately four hours for the clean-up of the vehicle and debris.
