Arson charge in apartment fire

The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a 24-year-old Chatham man in regards to a suspicious fire in Cedar Springs yesterday.

Wednesday at around 2:30 a.m. emergency crews including firefighters from Raleigh South and Blenheim and responded to a residential fire in Cedar Springs. The building was evacuated as the fire department extinguished the blaze. Seven of the eight units were currently occupied.

No one was injured. Damage is estimated to be at $80,000. The office of the Ontario Fire Marshall attended the scene.

The suspect has been charged with Arson Endangering life, Arson Damage to property and Break and Enter. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.
