Yesterday morning around 9:00 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at Picard Construction on Park Avenue West in Chatham. Unknown suspect(s) entered the fenced compound and stole approximately $300 worth copper wiring.
Upon examining the damage to the chain link fence, two large spools of copper wiring were found to have been left behind. All of a sudden, the man was observed sneaking through the wooded area, returning for the spools of wiring. The man fled on foot as soon as he saw police. The officer followed the man and found him hiding behind trees at Columbus Estates on Park Avenue.
The 40-year-old Chatham man was charged with break and enter. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.
