Saturday night at approximately 7:14pm, officers were dispatched to attend the area of Young’s Variety on Longwoods Road in response to a driver sitting in his car believed to be impaired by alcohol.

Upon arrival, officers observed the driver slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle, with keys in the ignition, asleep

Once the driver was awake and speaking to officers, a strong odour of alcohol emanated from the driver, and after further investigation, was arrested for having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

The driver was transported to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters where breath tests were administered and the driver charged well as with having over 80mg or alcohol in 100ml of blood.

The 28 year old Chatham man was later released from custody with a future court date to answer to the charges.
