Around 5:00 p.m. yesterday, a woman attended Dollar Haven on Talbot Street West in Blenheim. While in the store, the woman selected various items and concealed them in her handbag. She then entered an ‘employees only’ area and stole a wallet from a purse.
The woman exited the store through a set of fire doors, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.
Police were contacted and the woman was arrested a short distance away from the store.
The 39-year-old Blenheim woman has been charged with two counts of theft under $5000 and one count of possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
