Around 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon while in police custody at the Chatham-Kent Courthouse, the man appeared to be in medical distress. He was transported via ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention. At 4:25 p.m. while in the Emergency Department, the man slipped out of his handcuffs and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended and returned to his bed.

At 7:30 p.m. last night, the man was discharged from the hospital and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with attempt to escape lawful custody. The 19-year-old Raleigh Township man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
