Just after midnight Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving three tractor trailers on Highway 401 westbound, near Queens Line.

Prior to the collision, westbound traffic had come to a stop momentarily to facilitate the removal of a broken down vehicle in the westbound lane. Two tractor trailers were stopped in traffic when a third tractor trailer struck the rear of the second tractor trailer that was stopped. The impact caused the second tractor trailer to surge ahead and collide into the rear of the first tractor trailer ahead of it.

The driver of the third tractor trailer, 56-year-old Raghbir GILL, from Brampton, has been charged with Careless Driving. He reported minor injuries and the vehicle sustained major damage.

No injuries were reported by the drivers of the first and second tractor trailers. The second tractor trailer sustained major damage while the first sustained minor damage.

The highway was closed westbound for several hours and reopened at approximately 6:00 a.m.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for any incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or the nearest police authority.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.00.
