Near miss leads to charges

Last night around 9:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol was stopped on St. George Street near Park Street in Chatham when he observed the man narrowly miss hitting the cruiser as he made a turn onto St. George Street and accelerate away. The officer turned around and initiated a traffic stop. Through investigation, the officer believed the man was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody. The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests. His vehicle was towed from the roadway.

A 38-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit. He has been released pending a future court date of August 7, 2015.
