Police charged a 42-year-old with assault, after encountering a woman sporting two black eyes and other bruising in Ridgetown on Good Friday.

An officer went to a residence to speak to a man about an incident, police say, but he wasn’t home. The woman who answered the door, however, had been visibly injured.

The office questioned the woman, according to police, but she became unco-operative and closed the door.

The cop tried to get the woman’s attention, but she didn’t respond.

Police say he returned with a supervisor the next day, and they were denied entry into the home, but the officers sensed she wanted assistance, as she implied she was the victim of abuse.

Although the victim would not provide a formal statement, police say they put together enough evidence for an arrest.

A 42-year-old Ridgetown man is facing charges.
