Two morning accidents, one involving a school bus, have kept police busy this morning.

In one case, a five-year-old child suffered serious injuries in a collision near Blenheim.

It started at 7:30 a.m., when a southbound school bus on St. Clair Street in Chatham stopped for traffic near Maryknoll Road. A car stopped behind the bus, which had 18 students on board, but police say a van failed to stop, hitting the car and knocking it into the bus.

The driver of the car, a 63-year-old Port Lambton woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the van, a 75-year-old Chatham man, is charged with careless driving.

Damage is estimated at $30,000

Meanwhile, an hour later, the driver of a van travelling on Middle Line towards Blenheim lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centre line and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The young boy was hurt in this crash and was taken to hospital in Chatham.

Damage is estimated at $15,000.

As of 10:45 a.m., Middle Line between Allison Line and Industrial Road remained close as police are investigating.
