A smash-and-dash of a local business on March 14 is the Crime Stoppers crime of the week.

Police look for the public’s help tracking down the culprit who smashed the glass door of a business on the corner of Queen and Richmond streets in Chatham at 6 a.m. that morning. Once inside, the thief stole a cash drawer, and was seen running east behind businesses on Park Street.

Police say a security camera caught the break-in. The suspect is seen wearing a distinctive hoodie that covered his face. During entry, the suspect was badly cut, and he was bleeding when he fled the scene.

Several items of bloodstained clothing, including the hoodie, were found by officers in a nearby dumpster, police say, and they’ve been sent away for DNA testing.
