With tonight’s low expected to dip to -17C, the local health unit is issuing a cold alert.
The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit’s media release said the alert could be extended through Wednesday night, as the wind chill that evening could reach -25C.
Cold weather alerts are issued when the temperature dips to -15C or lower, a wind chill warning is issued, or when extreme weather is predicted.
Overexposure to the cold may result in hypothermia or frostbite.
Health unit officials advise residents to dress appropriately and in breathable layers when outdoors, and to take indoor breaks if you will be outdoors for any length of time in the cold.
