Adam and Kathy Vandermey are former Chatham-Kent residents who gave up their material belongings to chase their dreams. They’re currently living in Nicaragua for six months. The Chatham Voice will periodically feature excerpts of their blog.
There have been a lot of adjustments for us to make in our lives over the last 6 weeks. For the first few weeks in Nicaragua it was definitely a vacation, seeing new things, living in new places, meeting new people and trying new experiences. There was lots of food and drink, fun and sleep. As Christmas approached the reality that we are living here (rather than vacationing) started to sink in. We watched as friends and family posted their holiday shenanigans and get togethers on Facebook, we Skyped with many and emailed with many more, but it really wasn’t the same.
The things that I missed about being “home” this Christmas actually really solidified that we are doing the right thing.
