What started off as a routine vehicle stop steamrolled into much more for Chatham-Kent police early this morning.
Shortly after 1 a.m., an officer pulled over a vehicle after observing it driving erratically. Police say the cop noticed a suspicious bulge in the passenger’s sweater pocket. It turned out to be a large can of bear pepper spray.
The officer believed the man intended on using it, so he made an arrest. Upon searching the man, police say he was found to be carrying what appeared to be a small amount of crack cocaine.
At police headquarters, a further search yielded about five grams of crystal meth.
What’s more, police say they learned the man gave a false name, as he was already on current charges with conditions.
As a result, a 31-year-old Windsor man was charged with possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, two counts of breaching his recognizance for possession of drugs and breaking curfew, as well as public mischief for giving a false identity.
