One arrest, one investigation

One man is in custody after a break and enter last night in Chatham, and police are looking for who pulled off another break-in early Tuesday morning.

According to Chatham-Kent police, at about 9:30 last night, an alert citizen contacted police to report a man dressed in dark clothing had just forced his way into a Park Street apartment. Officers arrived to find the man still inside the apartment. A search yielded a small flashlight, a screwdriver and bolt cutters.

A 31-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with break and enter and possession of break-in tools in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, about 3 a.m. Tuesday, someone broke into Charlie’s Variety on Keil Drive South and stole lottery tickets, cigarettes and cash. Total value of the theft is estimated at $3,000.
