A stubborn store clerk thwarted a robbery at a variety store in Chatham Friday.

Police say about 10:50 a.m., a man walked into the Park Avenue East store and demanded money.

The clerk refused and the angry would-be robber threw a display, police say.

The suspect was still hanging around in a huff when officers arrived, according to police, and was arrested.

A 30-year-old Chatham man faces a robbery charge in connection with the incident.
