The local separate school board is looking to run with an operating surplus next year.

Trustees for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board approved the 2014-15 budget that would have a surplus of $1.7 million.

“This budget surplus is the result of careful planning and stewardship of resources in the face of on-going funding pressures brought on by declining enrolment,” Dan Parr, director of education, said in a release.

The budget includes revenues in excess of $107.4 million, with anticipated expenses of nearly $105.7 million.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank associate director Jim McKenzie and his staff for delivering a budget which not only addresses all of our learning and operational needs, but also helps to strengthen our accumulated surplus for the future,” Carol Bryden, chair of the school board, said in a release.

The budget, which school board officials said complies with Ministry of Education requirements, will no go to the ministry for approval.

  1. How about putting that into classroom resources for the have-not schools who have to share Smart boards over numerous classrooms or more enrichment days or more EAs for kids with developmental or behavioural issues or class sizes actually under the cap… just a thought.
