Local “mompreneur” Lisa Fox Bail is hoping to empower Chatham-Kent, or at least the people who attend a coming weekend training session.

Motivational speaking engagements can sharpen a person’s mind in a manner similar to how a pencil sharpener puts a fine tip on a pencil.

But after a short while, that pencil gets dull. The same often happens with a person’s post-motivational mind, Bail said.

But the mother and entrepreneur believes the Designing Your Destiny training is different.

“Often, you go to something where you get really motivated and feel pumped up. But by the middle of the next week, you are back into your normal routine,” she said. “This gives you the tools for real change. It changes your thought patterns and behaviour. When you go back to work, or back home, you are a different person. It sticks with you.”

She’s helping to bring a two-day session May 10 and 11 to the John D. Bradley Convention Centre.

“It’s a leadership empowerment event. This is the first time anything like this has been held in Chatham-Kent,” she said.

0508Karen KesslerwebKaren Kessler, of ChooseRESULTS Leadership Company will lead the local session. Kessler is a personal leadership, empowerment and entrepreneur development trainer. Bail said she makes a huge impact.

Bail took part in a two-day session with Kessler last August, and found Kessler’s style down to earth.

“I was a little skeptical before I went. I’ve been to motivational things before, but this was a very different experience,” she said. “I did the event on a weekend and achieved my goal by the next Wednesday. Prior to the training, I didn’t even think it was possible.”

Bail, one of the organizers of the Ultimate Me Day event in Chatham in March, said the Design Your Destiny event helps rewire a person’s thinking, and ultimately, his or her actions.

“It provides a user manual to the human experience. A lot of us do things and don’t really know why. We tend to want to do things, but we don’t get them done too,” she said.

That’s where Designing Your Destiny can fit in, Bail said.

“We talk about why things don’t get done and how the brain is wired and how to use it to your advantage to create goals that you will achieve.”

She said NLP, or neuro-linguistic programming, shows a relationship between a person’s neurological processes, language and communication, as well as behavioural patterns.

“It’s about how your thoughts and emotions and speech patterns are all inter-related. If you shift that, it can create change in how you think,” she said.

“It’s similar to dominoes. If you change one little piece of how you think or how you interpret a situation, that has a whole ripple effect in how you think and function.”

Bail said participants shouldn’t expect a massive overhaul in their lives following a couple of days of training. But they can expect a shift in some areas.

“In two days, you aren’t going to do everything, but we ask people to come with a focus on one specific area of your life. But the way you do one thing is the way you do everything,” she said. “When we work on that one area, it does radiate out to all other aspects.”
