Chatham-Kent police charged five people with break and enter in the past 24 hours, including three teenagers.
Around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, a resident called police to report a suspicious vehicle in the area of Smithfield Circle in the Prestancia subdivision. The caller said there were teenagers checking parked vehicles, and that they had entered a garage.
Police say an officer observed the vehicle driving around the area with no lights on. He stopped the car and found the three teens in the vehicle to be in possession of stolen property.
A 19-year-old Windsor man, a 19-year-old Sarnia man and a 17-year-old Sarnia youth have all been charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Meanwhile on Tuesday evening, police responded to a call of two suspicious people near Water Elite on St. Clair Street about 6:50 p.m. Police received a detailed description of the two, but couldn’t find anybody when they arrived on scene.
But three and a half hours later, an officer on patrol saw a man and woman who matched the description on St. Clair Street. He stopped to investigate and police say he found the two be in possession of stolen items from Water Elite.
A 40-year-old Chatham man faces charges of break and enter, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The 37-year-old woman faces similar charges, plus one of drug possession.
