After four straight days of humidex values of 40C or more, the Chatham-Kent Public Health unit today increased the heat warning to Level 2.
Also factored into the decision is anticipated humidex numbers of 45C or higher in the forecast.
According to a press release from the health unit, the humidity and heat have lingered at night as well, as humidex readings overnight for the past four or more days have been 28C or higher.
The health unit urges residents to drink plenty of water, to go air-conditioned places when possible, wear a hat and lightweight clothing, limit outdoor activities to the coolest part of the day, and to never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
