Using a Sharpie to change the validation year on one’s license plates, while innovative, is illegal.

Chatham-Kent police pulled over a vehicle yesterday afternoon on Lacroix Street in town and discovered the validation for the vehicle expired nearly three years ago. The “’11” had been changed to a “’14” with a black marker.

Furthermore, the officer learned the driver didn’t have a valid licence or insurance.

An 18-year-old Chatham man faces charges of driving a motor vehicle without a licence, using unauthorized plates, operating a vehicle with no insurance and defacing a plate.
