Too close for legal comfort

A Chatham man faces charges after a someone tossed a chair at a woman’s vehicle on the weekend.

Chatham-Kent police say a man was placed on an undertaking on March 8 that included conditions to not be within 100 metres of a specific location in Chatham and to not communicate with a specific woman from Wallaceburg.

However, on Friday, police allege the man violated his conditions by getting too close to that unspecified location, and for trying to chat up the woman.

And when he was unsuccessful, police say he lobbed a chair the woman’s vehicle, causing an estimated $800 in damage.

Police were called and an arrest was made.

A 36-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of failing to comply and mischief.

Sticks and stones

A Wallaceburg woman faces assault charges after police say someone hit a minor with a thrown stick on Saturday evening.

Police got the call about 10:15 p.m. Saturday on James Street in Wallaceburg. Officers learned the victim was walking eastbound with her parent when they passed the accused, who police say they didn’t even know.

With no provocation according to police, the suspect grabbed a stick and threw it at the child, hitting her in the side.

The victim suffered minor injuries from the stick strike.

Police found the suspect a short time later and made the arrest.

A 32-year-old Wallaceburg woman is charged with assault with a weapon.

Soggy car leads to impaired charge

A Tilbury man is dealing with impaired charges following a mishap on Sunday night.

Police received a report of a vehicle in a water-filled ditch on Baptiste Road and responded.

Officers spotted the vehicle in more than three feet of water and went into the cold water to help the driver.

Police say the man appeared to be disoriented, but had no visible signs of injury.

Officers believed the man had been drinking and two breath tests came back at more than twice the legal limit.

A Tilbury man, 58, is charged with impaired.
