Man flees crash; charged with impaired
Chatham-Kent police called in the dogs to chase down a man who they say fled the site of a crash Tuesday morning.
The accidents occurred about 7:45 a.m. on Longwoods Road in Louisville just east of Chatham.
Through investigation, officers learned the man was driving a car eastbound on Longwoods Road when the car veered into the westbound lane and struck a car travelling westbound. The westbound car left the roadway and came to rest adjacent to a field. The driver of this vehicle was injured in the crash.
The other man fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival. As K9 and drones were being deployed, the man was located approximately two kilometres west of the collision site. The officer arrested the man and believed he was also under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
Further investigation revealed the man was also wanted by Sarnia Police Service.
A 26-year-old Sarnia man was transported to police headquarters, where he underwent a Drug Recognition Evaluation. The man is charged with failing to stop after an accident, impaired driving causing bodily harm, and failure/refusal to comply with a demand. He was also issued a Part 3 summons for driving without a valid driver’s license.
Drone leads cops to suspected thief
If you’re going to steal a vehicle, one would think you would leave the area rather than drive it around and get spotted regularly.
Apparently not.
On Sept. 15, someone stole a vehicle from an address on Industrial Road in Thamesville.
Three days later, the vehicle was observed on Littlejohn Road in Bothwell. A day after that, the owner of the vehicle spotted it on Tower Road in Bothwell.
That’s where it was recovered after the occupants fled the area.
K9 and the drone were deployed to search the area.
Through investigation, officers used surveillance footage from various locations to identify the individuals involved and sought a warrant for their arrest.
On Tuesday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service assisted the OPP in locating and arresting one individual in Alvinston.
A 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with possession of stolen property.
A second person is also wanted in this matter.
Man answers to mischief allegations
A Chatham man turned himself in Tuesday afternoon in the wake of someone tampering with gas pumps at a local station.
Police say someone attended a gas station on Richmond Street in Chatham Sept. 4 and was captured via video surveillance applying a substance on the keypad of a pump station.
The man left the area only to return a short time later in a different vehicle and to a different pump station. During the second visit, the man was again captured via video surveillance repeating the same actions, police say.
The pump was inspected, deemed to be unusable and required repairs.
The man was identified through surveillance footage and contacted regarding the charges.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 63-year-old Chatham man attended Chatham-Kent police headquarters and turned himself in. He is charged with two counts of mischief over $5,000.
