ATV stalls as man tries to flee cops
A Walpole Island man is in hot water after Chatham-Kent police say he tried to avoid being pulled over by officers while driving a stolen ATV on the weekend.
The incident took place Sunday morning when an officer spotted a man riding an ATV on Victoria Street in Wallaceburg.
Police say the officer recognized the rider from past encounters, and confirmed he was banned from driving due to criminal code convictions.
The ATV also didn’t have a plate.
So, the officer went to pull the ATV over on Kent Line near Brigden Road, only to see the rider opt to speed off into a field.
However, the all-terrain vehicle stalled in a ditch and the rider then attempted to flee on foot.
That didn’t last long, as officers quickly swooped in to make the arrest.
Police say officers searched the man and found him to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Additional investigation revealed the ATV was stolen last August from an address in Dutton.
