Man pees on floor in jail cell; more charges

Chatham-Kent police say a local man faces more charges in the wake of an arrest Wednesday due to his behaviour while in custody.

It began about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police were called to Coverdale Street in Chatham for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located a man who refused to leave the area, displaying a clear intent to persist in disruptive behaviour. As a result, police arrested the man for breaching the peace.

The man was transported to police headquarters, where he was lodged into a cell. His unruly behaviour continued, leading an incident in which he urinated on the floor, police say.

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with mischief. He was held pending a bail hearing. As a result, he was remanded into custody and transported to Southwest Regional Detention Centre until his next video court appearance on Friday.

Out cold behind the wheel

A local man faces impaired driving charges after police found a driver unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle on Forest Street in Chatham.

Police responded to reports of an unconscious man in a vehicle on Forest Street in Chatham shortly after 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Officer arrived on the scene and believed the man to be impaired by an intoxicating substance.

Police also learned the man had a suspended driver’s license and could not produce ownership or insurance for the vehicle. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for tests.

A 60-year-old Chatham-Kent man was released with Part III summons for the Highway Traffic Act offences.

Chirping leads to charges

An outburst on Fourth Street in Chatham shortly before noon Wednesday landed a Chatham man with some time in the slammer.

Police got the call about 11:50 a.m.

Officers learned the man was irate and yelling comments to cause property damage and harm others present, police say.

A 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He was charged with two counts of uttering threats.

Skipped court dates

Perhaps Chatham-Kent police should just set up skipping rope outside the courthouse in Chatham, as the plethora of local folks who for whatever reason don’t make their scheduled court dates continued Wednesday.

It began shortly before 9:30 a.m. when police located a woman on Westcourt Boulevard in Wallaceburg. The officer confirmed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a stolen vehicle investigation.

A 30-year-old Wallaceburg woman faces charges of failing to attend court, possession of stolen property over $5,000, driving while suspended and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

As the clock struck noon, police located a woman on Wellington Street East in Chatham. The woman was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court in relation to a February 2024 weapons investigation and a July 2023 break-and-enter investigation.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held pending a bail hearing.  She is currently facing the following charges: unlawfully in a dwelling, possession of stolen property, possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon, careless storage of a firearm/weapon, failing to attend court and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Ninety minutes later, police located a man on Talbot Street in Blenheim. The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to an October 2022 assault investigation and probation violations.

A 45-year-old Blenheim man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer, failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order and two counts of failing to attend court.
