Asleep at the wheel…impaired charge
A man found asleep at the wheel while waiting at a stop sign in Thamesville is facing impaired charges.
Police got the call shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday to head to Victoria Street in Thamesville to conduct a well-being check on a man observed sleeping at the wheel of his vehicle while at the stop sign at Jane Street.
Officers attended and believed the man to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance. The officer also found drug paraphernalia containing suspected fentanyl. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for tests.
A 37-year-old Bothwell man was charged with impaired driving by drugs, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Another impaired
Fourteen hours later, a swerver in Chatham got popped by the police for impaired driving.
Police say an officer spotted a vehicle travelling from Thames Street to Grand Avenue and it was swerving between lanes.
The officer believed the man driving to be operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The man was also violating other provincial laws, police say. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.
A 19-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available under the Liquor License and Control Act and G1 driver unaccompanied by a qualified driver and G1 drive at unlawful hour under the Highway Traffic Act.
Theft arrest
On Thursday about 1 p.m., a man walked into police headquarters to answer to theft charges.
Police say the man was wanted in connection with an Apirl 22 theft investigation from a Richmond Street organization in Chatham.
A 38-year-old Lakeshore man is charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
