The countdown is on to nominate someone Chatham-Kent’s inaugural Black Excellence Awards.
The Black Excellence committee, in concert with Buxton’s Next Generation (BNG) and Buxton National Historic Site & Museum, has created seven award categories. Deadline for nominations is Jan. 10.
They include: Female of the Year; Male of the Year; Agriculturalist of the Year; Entrepreneur of the Year; Youth of the Year; Citizen of the Year and the Trailblazer Award.
“We are thrilled to shine a light on the excellences found in our community,” said Michelle Robbins, committee co-chair and curator at the Buxton site.
Doug Robbins, also a co-chair, said the event would not be possible without a host of sponsors including lead sponsor Enbridge, as well as Hydro One, Mainstreet Credit Union, TekSavvy, Scotiabank, Maple Insurance, Impact Graphics, Chatham-Kent Economic Development and Tourism Services, Winmar, Community Futures, Sons of Kent, Retro Suites Hotel and With This Ring.
Nomination catalogues and the link to make nominations can be found on the Black Excellence Awards Facebook page. Tickets are on sale now on Eventbrite.
The black-tie gala and awards ceremony will culminate Feb. 10, as the cornerstone of Chatham-Kent’s Black History Month.
