Shoplifting, bail violations
Sunday evening did not end well for a local man.
At 8:22 p.m., police responded to a theft investigation at Mac’s Convenience on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.
Upon arrival, the officer learned the man removed items from the shelves and left without paying, police say.
The officer also confirmed the man entered into a probation order on July 6, and was released by the courts with conditions prohibiting him from attending the store.
The officer searched the area and located the man. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
A 48-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Sunday morning rollover
A Brampton man faces careless driving charges following a tractor-trailer rollover on Highway 401 Sunday morning.
The OPP say the crash took place shortly after 8 a.m. The vehicle entered the centre media and rolled onto its side.
The driver and the passenger were not seriously hurt, police say.

Call it a robbery
A Chatham man has to answer to charges of robbery and resisting arrest.
Police say about noon on Friday, a man entered a business on Queen Street. He tried to leave without paying for items, police say, and was confronted by two employees.
The man assaulted them both, police say.
Police located a 28-year-old Chatham man a short distance away on St. Patrick Street in Chatham and arrested him.
The man is charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime and resist peace officer.
Bail violations
A Sunday morning drive landed a Walpole Island man behind bars.
Police say an officer on patrol pulled over a vehicle on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg just after 7 a.m. Sunday. The officer discovered the passenger was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.
The officer also confirmed the man was bound by a condition prohibiting him from being outside his residence between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The officer arrested the man and transported him to police headquarters.
A 46-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with failing to attend court for fingerprints and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Theft even after he left
A local man faces charges after a visit to a local store on Sunday.
Shortly before noon, police got the call to attend Winners in Chatham over a report of suspicious activity.
Officers learned a man exited the store but left a bag behind. The officer rooted through the bag and discovered suspected stolen property. Officers identified the man through video surveillance and located him a short distance away.
The officer confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to several theft investigations.
A 53-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He has been charged with four counts of theft, four counts of possessing stolen property, failing to comply with an appearance notice, failing to comply with a release order and failing to attend court. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Failing to comply
Last Tuesday, police released a man from custody with several conditions. Two of the conditions stated that he was not to communicate with a specific Chatham woman or attend her home.
Friday evening, around 7 p.m., police got a call from the woman’s home.
They found the man hiding under the bed, police say.
A 37-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.
