Chatham-Kent police were kept busy in Tilbury on Tuesday, with multiple accidents, including one that sent an elderly Romney Township woman to hospital in London.
It began shortly after 11 a.m. when an SUV turned onto Canal Street from Ella Street and was involved with a side-impact collision with a van. Police say the van hit a pole.
Meanwhile, the SUV continued east on Canal before turning onto Tilbury Street. However, police say the SUV failed to negotiate a turn at Mill Street and ran off the roadway.
The driver of the SUV, an 86-year-old woman from Romney Township, was taken to hospital in London by air ambulance.

About two and a half hours later, emergency crews responded to another accident just east of Tilbury, on Queen’s Line between Davidson Road and Bonneau Line.
Police say both vehicles involved were headed west on Queen’s Line. The first went to turn left on Davidson Road, and traffic came to a stop behind it.
Well, except for the other vehicle. Police say its driver decided to try to pass the stopped traffic. That led to the passing vehicle slamming into the turning vehicle, causing it to drive through a ditch.
Neither driver sustained any injuries in the collision. Both vehicles had to be towed away from the scene.
The driver of the passing vehicle was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
