One person is dead and fire officials are providing few details after a fire on St. George Street in Chatham Tuesday night.
Crews from both Chatham stations responded just before 9:30 p.m. to a fire at a multiunit dwelling at 24 St. George St.
Officials confirm one person was pronounced dead on scene, while four others were taken to hospital.
The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating the blaze.
Chatham-Kent police and fire personnel remain on scene today, while Victim Services was on scene last night.
“Crews will be returning to the area tomorrow to conduct an After the Fire Reassurance Campaign – to speak to neighbours about fire safety and check alarms,” assistant chief Adam Walters said in a media release.
No further details will be released at this time.
