She couldn’t stay away
Chatham-Kent police say a Chatham woman is facing charges after violating a court order, as well as committing assault.
Police got the call about 11:20 p.m. Thursday of a fracas on Dover Court in Chatham.
Police discovered a woman had driven to the Dover Court address with a third party. The woman exited the vehicle and physically attacked the victim, requiring intervention to separate them, police say.
Before the police arrived, the woman left the scene.
Officers confirmed the woman was under a release order with conditions prohibiting communication with the victim, being within 100 metres of the Dover Court address, and consuming alcohol.
Subsequently, the police located her at her residence. Based on observations, officers believed she had been consuming alcohol. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
A 23-year-old Chatham woman was charged with assault causing bodily harm and three counts of failing to comply with a release order. She was transported to the police headquarters and detained pending a bail hearing.
Skipped court date, drug charges
Hanging out under the Third Street Bridge ultimately led to numerous charges against a local man Thursday.
Chatham-Kent police got a tip just before noon that a stolen bike posted on social media was spotted under the Third Street Bridge.
Officers went there and located a man who was wanted due to an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. The warrant was related to a wire theft from Canadian Pacific Railway property in May 2022.
While arresting the man, a search was conducted as per standard protocol. This search led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine in the man’s possession.
A 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to traffic.
Video game system stolen
A Chatham woman has to answer to theft charges after someone made off with a video game system and games, and pawned them Thursday.
Chatham-Kent police were informed of a theft on Grand Avenue East in Chatham late Thursday morning.
Police discovered that a gaming station and games had been stolen from the victim’s home and subsequently pawned at a local pawn shop.
The victim provided the name of a woman known to her as a suspect in the theft, police say. Further investigation led the police to locate the stolen items, which were returned to the victim.
The woman named by the victim was identified as the individual who had pawned the stolen items.
Subsequently, she was located and arrested.
A 47-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was charged with theft and possessing stolen property.
