A Chatham-Kent police officer has been charged following an investigation of intimate partner violence.

According to the police service, the officer was arrested Nov. 11 – four days ago – and charged with two counts of criminal harassment. This information was not released to the medi until late Monday afternoon.

Police say the officer was held in custody before being released today, with a future court date of Dec. 7.

The Windsor Police Service has been asked to take over the investigation, police say, to “ensure impartiality surrounding this investigation,” according to a media release.

No further information will be released in order to protect the identity of the victim, integrity of the investigation and subsequent criminal court process along with pending Police Services Act investigation, police say.

The officer is currently suspended from duty, with pay.
