Chatham-Kent declared its second long-term care (LTC) outbreak on Friday afternoon.

The CK Public Health Unit declared an outbreak at Fairfield Park Nursing Home, Wallaceburg. The first LTC outbreak was declared at Riverview Gardens in early December, and still remains active.

According to a letter Fairfield Park sent to its residents, only one staff member to date has tested positive for COVID-19. When it comes to LTC homes, only one individual case is needed to reach outbreak status.

“The staff member who tested positive has had very minimal close contact with residents and other team members. As a precaution, we have isolated residents residing on our Green Wing and have assigned dedicated staff to this area of the home,” the LTC home stated.

Fairfield Park did not yet respond to a request for further comment.

“Rest assured that we have taken swift action to halt the spread of the virus through vigorous infection management practices and procedures,” the statement read.

Visits to the facility will be cancelled until further notice and residents will only be allowed to leave for essential purposes.

Chatham-Kent now has 41 active cases of COVID-19 after reporting six new and two recovered on Friday afternoon.
