Assault charges

A local man faces assault charges after an altercation on King Street East in Chatham yesterday.

According to Chatham-Kent police, two men argued, and one man hit the other in the leg with a shower curtain rod.

The man was arrested and the metal pole was seized as evidence.

A 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault with a weapon. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Hiding from police

On Sept. 14, a woman was released from custody with several conditions. Two of those conditions stated that she was not to communicate with a specific Chatham man or attend his residence.

Last night, police responded to a disturbance at the man’s home. Through investigation, police found the woman hiding inside the residence.

The 24-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions.

Theft, drug charges

Last night, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Wal-Mart in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that the man concealed items in his coat and replaced the shoes he was wearing with new boots.

The man attended the cashier’s till and paid for other items, but not the merchandise hidden in his coat or the new boots on his feet.

Total value of the theft was estimated at $150.

A 41-year-old Thamesville was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for drug possession.

Missing rifle

As previous reported, sometime early Monday morning, someone entered three properties on 1st Concession Line. A storage area was entered and two separate trailers were entered.

Yesterday, police learned that a black .22 cal. Mossberg rifle was also stolen from a trailer, along with a magazine. The rifle had a scope and trigger lock attached.

Tools taken

Sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, someone entered a school under construction on Baldoon Road. Once inside the suspect(s) stole:

– 2 Stihl orange and white cement saws

– An Arbortech dark grey cement saw

– DeWalt grinder

– DeWalt impact drill

– DeWalt hammer drill

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $7,000.

The suspect(s) also caused about $2,000 damage to a forklift on the property.

Theft in Tilbury

Sometime between Monday night at 8 p.m. and yesterday morning at 8:30 a.m., someone entered a construction site on Tecumseh Line and stole building materials valued at approximately $3,000.

Theft of electronics

Sometime between Monday at 10:30 p.m. and Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. someone forced their way into the Living Faith Church on Victoria Avenue, causing about $300 damage.

Once inside, the suspect(s) stole two laptop computers (Acer and HP).

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1,600.

Warrants

On Aug. 10, a woman was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that she was not to communicate with a specific Wallaceburg man.

But on Sept. 27, the pair was seen together at a local gas station and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Yesterday morning, the woman attended police headquarters and turned herself in.

A 32-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions.

Yesterday afternoon, police arrested a man who was wanted for using a counterfeit $100 US bill to buy clothes at a local store.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of four counterfeit $20 US bills.

A 47-year-old Chatham man is charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, using counterfeit money and two counts of being in possession of counterfeit money.

Last night, police arrested a man who was wanted for failing to attend court to provide a DNA sample as per his sentence earlier this year.

A 43-year-old Chatham man has been charged and remains in police custody this morning.

Last night, police arrested a woman who was wanted in connection with a stolen motor vehicle investigation.

A 37-year-old Chatham woman is charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000.
