Roll up your sleeve at the Chatham Blood Donor clinic coming up on May 11 to help fill the 150 open appointments.
Canadian Blood Services is aiming to reach 200,000 blood donations by July 1 to meet patient needs, as the summer is always a challenging time to collect blood.
Currently, the national inventory is significantly down on a lot of blood types. All types are needed, but O’s and A’s especially.
Many recipients are in need of type O blood as it is the most common and there is an immediate need for it.
It takes up to five units of blood to help someone get through heart surgery or cancer treatment, eight units a week to help someone battling leukemia, and up to 50 units to save a single car crash victim.
The Chatham Blood Donor clinic will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
To start giving life, book an appointment by calling 1-888-236-6283, visiting www.blood.ca or downloading the GiveBlood app. New donors and walk-ins are welcome.
The clinic will be at St. Joseph’s Spirit and Life Centre, located on 184 Wellington St. W., Chatham.
