A poor chimney is being blamed for a $150,000 house fire on MacDonald Line in East Kent Sunday night.

Three fire stations – Orford, Bothwell and Ridgetown – responded to a fire call shortly after 6 p.m.

Occupants of the home had safely evacuated, and firefighters arrived to see the home ablaze.

Initially, the Orford and Ridgetown stations were first on the scene, with Bothwell supplying water backup.

According to fire officials, the suspected cause is the deterioration of a wood stove’s chimney.
