It appears a Blenheim man rang in the new year by assaulting his girlfriend.
Monday morning, a 28-year-old Blenheim man turned himself into police and now faces charges of assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, two counts of uttering threats and mischief.
Police say a woman reported to police on Dec. 31 at about 8 p.m. that a man had assaulted her. She also disclosed previous incidents of violence.
At the time, the man fled the residence, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
