Editor: Regarding the editorial “We’re demanding some honesty,” in the Sept. 3 Chatham Voice, I beg to differ, sir. There are many things a prospective councillor may want to keep personal. I believe whether they support MAGA or not is one of them.
What possible difference does it make to a municipal councillor? With an MP or MPP, it does; I would want to know where they stand. But a councillor? Why don’t you ask what religion they are; are they straight, gay, trans, or atheists; do they speed; or smoke marijuana; vaxxed or not?
Whether a candidate supports or opposes Trump is irrelevant to a local councillor’s Bonafides. It is only, after all, just an opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.
